ARTICLE REVIEW: AQUACULTURE FEEDS THE POOR
A google search for the term “aquaculture” will return quite a few articles with extremely polarized results. They will range from claims that aquaculture is the only hope for feeding the human population in the future or the cure for current world hunger, to claims that it destroys local ecosystems and produces toxic fish. As with everything on the internet, the truth lies somewhere in between. The reader must ask themselves, “what is the motivation of the writer?” and “who stands to gain from the conclusions drawn?” This topic is plagued by outdated or outright incorrect information as well as deceptive marketing. The following article by Ben Belton, David Little, and Simon Bush is clearly on the pro-aquaculture side. I believe their conclusions are well thought out, logical, and mostly unbiased. Please give it a read and draw your own conclusions.
